description: I am currently a doctoral student in Applied Linguistics at the University of Arizona in Tucson. My major areas of study are linguistic and cultural anthropology and Latin American studies. I have lived in both Santiago de Chile and Iquique. I spent this past summer in the Andes of Chile doing a sociolinguistic study on the cultural connotations of the voseo chileno in the border regions of Chile. This research, which was sponsored by UCBerkeley, put me in contact with many different indigenous populations throughout Chile, thus inciting my interest in these cultures. My current research focuses on the effects of language planning on the survival of the indigenous languages and cultures of Chile.

Soy fonoaudiólogo y estoy haciendo un Master en Terapéutica del Lenguaje en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Becado por la Agencia Española de Cooperación). Actualmente, me encuentro terminando mi tesis que consiste en la elaboración de programas computacionales de estimulación del lenguaje en castellano de niños de muy bajo nivel socio-económico y decendientes mapuche que viven en el área metropolitana. Durante el año 2000 y en conciencia con la aparición y manejo de nuevas tecnologías, pretendemos ampliar nuestro trabajo mediante la realización de una nueva versión de estos programas al mapudungum.

Me agradaría establecer contactos con chilenos y mapuches que estén trabajando en esta área.
